These Terms of Service govern your use of the Phone Friend mobile app and website at phonefriend.app. By using Phone Friend you agree to these terms. Please read them — they are written in plain English and are designed to be fair to everyone.

What Phone Friend is

Phone Friend is an educational app that provides step-by-step guides, quizzes and an AI chat feature to help people learn how to use their smartphones. The app is intended for general educational purposes only.

While we work hard to keep all guides accurate and up to date, Phone Friend does not guarantee that any guide, tip or AI response is correct, complete or suitable for your specific device or situation. Phone models, software versions and settings change regularly. Always check with your phone's manufacturer or network if you are unsure.

The AI chat feature

The Ask AI feature in Phone Friend is powered by Anthropic's Claude AI. Responses are generated automatically and may not always be accurate or up to date. The AI is provided as a helpful tool, not professional technical advice.

• Do not share personal information such as passwords, bank details or security codes in the AI chat.
• AI responses are not stored by Phone Friend. See Anthropic's privacy policy for how they handle messages.
• Free users receive a limited number of AI questions per day. This limit resets at midnight.

Your account and progress

Phone Friend does not require you to create an account. Your progress, scores and settings are stored locally on your device. If you uninstall the app or clear your device storage, this data will be lost. We are not responsible for any loss of progress data.

Payments and upgrades

Phone Friend offers optional paid upgrades — an Ad-Free option and Phone Friend+ — processed securely through Stripe. By making a purchase you agree to the following:

• All purchases are in GBP and are subject to UK consumer law.
• Phone Friend+ is an annual subscription. You will be reminded before renewal.
• You are entitled to a refund within 14 days of purchase if you change your mind, in line with the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013. To request a refund email hello@phonefriend.app.
• We do not store or handle your payment details. Stripe processes all payments directly.

Advertising

The free version of Phone Friend may display advertisements served by Google AdMob. Advertisements are clearly separated from guide content. Upgrading to Phone Friend+ or the Ad-Free option removes all advertising permanently.

Intellectual property

All content in Phone Friend — including guides, quiz questions, written content, design, images and the Phone Friend name and logo — is owned by Phone Friend and is protected by UK copyright law.

You may not copy, reproduce, distribute or sell any part of Phone Friend's content without prior written permission. Personal, non-commercial use of the app is permitted and encouraged.

Acceptable use

When using Phone Friend you agree not to:

• Use the app for any unlawful purpose.
• Attempt to reverse engineer, copy or extract the app's content or code.
• Use the AI chat to generate harmful, illegal or abusive content.
• Misuse the app in any way that could damage, disable or impair it.

Limitation of liability

Phone Friend is provided in good faith as an educational tool. To the fullest extent permitted by UK law, we are not liable for any loss or damage — including loss of data, financial loss or damage to your device — that results from your use of the app or reliance on any guide, tip or AI response.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or anything else that cannot be excluded under UK law.

Third party services

Phone Friend uses third party services including Anthropic (AI), Stripe (payments) and Google AdMob (advertising). Your use of these services is also subject to their own terms and privacy policies. We are not responsible for the practices of these third parties.

Changes to the app or these terms

We may update Phone Friend or these terms at any time. We will update the date at the top of this page when changes are made. Continued use of the app after changes means you accept the updated terms. If we make significant changes to paid features we will notify you by email where possible.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
